Web Reference: Sequence alignments are a collection of two or more sequences that have been aligned to each other – usually with the insertion of gaps, and the addition of leading or trailing gaps – such that all the sequence strings are the same length. In this video, we will look at local sequence alignment. To obtain aligned sequences, we can call the to_aligned method of the path. As we can see, by inserting four consecutive gaps in the appropriate positions, the two sequences appear more similar, or “aligned”, with one another. The score measures the goodness of the alignment.
