I want that script to run continuously in the background, but I also want to be able to stop it... One is to stop the script (Ctrl Z), get the PID of the script and send SIGKILL to the process group. When a command is executed in a shell, the process it starts and all its children are part of the same process group (in this case, the foreground process group). Dec 12, 2008 · I am looking for a way to clean up the mess when my top-level script exits. Especially if I want to use set -e, I wish the background process would die when the script exits.
