Web Reference: The primary piece of OCaml syntax is the expression. Just like programs in imperative languages are primarily built out of commands, programs in functional languages are primarily built out of expressions. This chapter explains how to create OCaml syntax trees using quotations. The OCaml syntax tree is defined in the module MLast (file ``mLast.mli''): it is of course always possible to create your syntax tree nodes by combining values of these types. We need a printer and a parser to go back and forth between the abstract syntax and the concrete syntax, which in the case of expressions is the familiar algebraic notation (e.g. 2*x+1).
