The first query uses EXISTS and the second query uses IN. The EXISTS operator is used in a WHERE clause to check whether a subquery returns any rows. The EXISTS operator evaluates to TRUE if the subquery returns at least one row, and FALSE otherwise. Using the exists operator, your subquery can return zero, one, or many rows, and the condition simply checks whether the subquery returned any rows.
