(Not just a prefix or suffix) In the dimension ribbon bar there is a button with an x on it. It gives you a bunch of formatting options, one of which is "none". Select this and put in your text as a prefix or postfix. The dimension value won't show up. When the dimension is placed, click on the 'x' in the smartstep ribbon bar (dimension type button). Select the greyed-out 'x' and your value will blank out. Now you can type in any value in the prefix menu (button next to the dimension type button).
