Web Reference: Singleton pattern in Ruby. Full code example in Ruby with detailed comments and explanation. Singleton is a creational design pattern, which ensures that only one object of its kind exists and provides a single point of access to it for any other code. To use Singleton, include the module in your class. This ensures that only one instance of Klass can be created. The instance is created at upon the first call of Klass.instance(). This behavior is preserved under inheritance and cloning. By default Singleton's #_dump (depth) returns the empty string. Marshalling by default will strip state information, e.g. instance variables and taint state, from the instance.
