Web Reference: Jul 11, 2025 · Reindexing in Pandas is used to change the row or column labels of a DataFrame to match a new set of indices. This is useful when aligning data, adding missing labels, or reshaping your DataFrame. This is because filling while reindexing does not look at DataFrame values, but only compares the original and desired indexes. If you do want to fill in the NaN values present in the original DataFrame, use the fillna() method. See the user guide for more. The reindex() method allows you to change the row indexes, and the columns labels. Note: The values are set to NaN if the new index is not the same as the old. tolerance parameters are keyword arguments. Required. String or list containing row indexes or column labels. Optional, default None.
