The keyword register hints to the compiler that a given variable can be put in a register. When at a certain point of the instruction stream, a register variable has its value assigned in a processor’s register, and the register has not been used since to get the value of another variable, the compiler knows that it does not need to re-load the value of the variable in that register. register is a keyword in C, and formerly in C++. The register keyword was deprecated in C++, and later removed (but remains reserved) in C++17. It suggests that the compiler stores a declared variable in a CPU register (or some other faster location) instead of in random-access memory.
