Web Reference: 1 day ago · By converting the value to a string before calling __format__(), the normal formatting logic is bypassed. Three conversion flags are currently supported: '!s' which calls str() on the value, '!r' which calls repr() and '!a' which calls ascii(). It does what you want: convert the strings True, true, yes, on, 1 (and some more) to True and False, false etc... to False. It also raises an error if the string does not represent something which can be interpreted as boolean. The string constructor is a built-in Python function that allows you to convert whatever you pass in to an str. str is one of Python's 71 built-in functions.
