Each pair of hex digits represents one byte making it useful for decoding hexadecimal-encoded data. There is a built-in function in bytearray that does what you intend. It returns a bytearray and it reads hex strings with or without space separator. This works in Python 3, whereas hex_string.decode("hex") does not. In particular, the output of float.hex () is usable as a hexadecimal floating-point literal in C or Java code, and hexadecimal strings produced by C’s %a format character or Java’s Double.toHexString are accepted by float.fromhex ().
