If the property's value is an object and there are no more references to the object, the object held by that property is eventually released automatically. The delete operator should not be used on the properties of any predefined JavaScript objects (Array, Boolean, Date, Function, Math, Number, RegExp, and String). The purpose of the delete operator is to completely remove a property from an object, whereas setting a property to undefined just sets the property to undefined.
