Web Reference: Dec 22, 2025 · Error detection is a technique used in computer networks to identify whether transmitted data has been corrupted during communication. The sender adds redundant bits to the data before transmission, and the receiver verifies the integrity of the received frame by checking these bits. In information theory and coding theory with applications in computer science and telecommunications, error detection and correction (EDAC) or error control are techniques that enable reliable delivery of digital data over unreliable communication channels. Errors in the received frames are detected by means of Parity Check and Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC). In both cases, few extra bits are sent along with actual data to confirm that bits received at other end are same as they were sent.
