Web Reference: Jul 24, 2025 · Tuple Relational Calculus (TRC) is a non-procedural query language used to retrieve data from relational databases by describing the properties of the required data (not how to fetch it). It is possible to write tuple calculus expressions that generate infinite relations. To guard against the problem, we restrict the set of allowable expressions to safe expressions. NOTE: this is more than just a syntax condition. Tuple calculus is a calculus that was created and introduced by Edgar F. Codd as part of the relational model, in order to provide a declarative database-query language for data manipulation in this data model.
