Web Reference: Dec 6, 2025 · Multi-Version Concurrency Control (MVCC) is a technique used in databases to allow many users to read and update data at the same time without blocking each other. Multiversion concurrency control (MCC or MVCC), is a non-locking concurrency control method commonly used by database management systems to provide concurrent access to the database and in programming languages to implement transactional memory. When a txn writes to an object, the DBMS creates a new version of that object (instead of private workspace in OCC) When a txn reads an object, it reads the newest version that existed when the txn started.
