It can be used for both front-end and back-end development which isn’t the case for some other languages. JavaScript is not a terrible language, but it's far from good. One big reason is the approach it takes to incorrect code: rather than fail outright, it often either tries to guess what you meant, or worse, fails but keeps trucking on until that failure creates a subsequent failure.
