The first step to convert the signal from analog to digital is to filter out the higher frequency component of the signal. This make things easier downstream to convert this signal. Waveform coding is a digital signal processing technique in which an analog signal is represented by directly encoding its sampled waveform values, aiming to preserve the original signal's shape as closely as possible after reconstruction by the decoder. In waveform coding, we try our best to approximate the waveform of the input signal using some distortion measure such as mean squared error.
