Web Reference: This function doesn’t provide explanations (because there may be different fixes for different segments of text). To get an explanation, use the fix_and_explain () function, which fixes the string in one segment and explains what it fixed. ftfy fixes Unicode that’s broken in various ways. It works in Python 2.7, Python 3.2, or later. The goal of ftfy is to take in bad Unicode and output good Unicode, for use in your Unicode-aware code. This is different from taking in non-Unicode and outputting Unicode, which is not a goal of ftfy. This is what Python’s “string-escape” and “unicode-escape” codecs were meant to do, but in contrast, this actually works. It will decode the string exactly the same way that the Python interpreter decodes its string literals.
