He was nominated for awards for his work such as Harlow (1965), They Shoot Horses, Don't They? (1969), and Pete's Dragon (1977). Although Red Buttons is best known as a stand-up comic, he is also a successful songwriter, an Academy Award-winning actor (and has been nominated for two Golden Globe awards) and an accomplished singer. Red Buttons spent more than 60 years as a comedian and actor, his career stretching from the last days of vaudeville and burlesque to the early years of television to serious film roles to that ritual of pop culture, the celebrity roast.
