Web Reference: Jan 31, 2026 · The Thread.sleep () method in Java is used to pause the execution of the currently running thread for a specified amount of time. After the sleep duration ends, the thread becomes runnable again and continues execution based on thread scheduling. Thread.sleep causes the current thread to suspend execution for a specified period. This is an efficient means of making processor time available to the other threads of an application or other applications that might be running on a computer system. Then, to call on the method, type pause(ms) but replace ms with the number of milliseconds to pause. That way, you don't have to insert the entire try-catch statement whenever you want to pause.
