The Java Compiler does not check for this error during the compilation of a program. It occurs when we try to access the element out of the index we are allowed to, i.e. index >= size of the array. An ArrayIndexOutOfBoundsException is caused by trying to retrieve a "box" that does not exist, by passing an index that is higher than the index of the last "box", or negative.
