Karnaugh Maps are useful for finding minimal implementations of Boolean expressions with only a few variables. However, they can be a little tricky when “don't cares” (X) are involved. Table 4-1 lists 12 basic rules that are useful in manipulating and simplifying Boolean expressions. Rules 1 through 9 will be viewed in terms of their application to logic gates.
