Web Reference: An attractor's basin of attraction is the region of the phase space, over which iterations are defined, such that any point (any initial condition) in that region will asymptotically be iterated into the attractor. As one of his list of challenging problems for mathematics (Smale's problems), Smale (1998, 2000) posed the open question of whether the Lorenz attractor is a strange attractor. The values a, b, c in the Lorenz equations are constants (for the Lorenz Attractor, a = 10, b = 28, and c = 8/3). These constants, as well as the above equations, can be altered to generate different results.
