Web Reference: Mar 17, 2026 · ArrayList in Java is a resizable array provided in the java.util package. Unlike normal arrays, its size can grow or shrink dynamically as elements are added or removed. An ArrayList keeps elements in the same order you add them, so the first item you add will be at index 0, the next at index 1, and so on. Resizable-array implementation of the List interface. Implements all optional list operations, and permits all elements, including null. In addition to implementing the List interface, this class provides methods to manipulate the size of the array that is used internally to store the list.
